New Plymouth Brick Trainning!

Good Morning Everyone!!

I hope you are liking the video-post sequence, would love to hear any comments and suggestions!

Here are some more images of New Plymouth, in New Zealand, this time I doing a brick session on the Taranaki Cycle Park, which is an awesome bike track with 1 mile extension around a velodrome. On this one I did a bike and run race rhythm workout, in other words, balls to the wall!!

What a great day of trainning!
Check it out...

Vacation, wkouts and tours in Rio de Janeiro!

Right after my last race in Rio, the idea was to have an easy vacation week at Rio de Janeiro!
The mistake was to chose the wrong people to have vacation with!! lol
With no rest, when I was not working out with Alexandre Moura, I was touristing with Florencia!

The result was many cool tours around the city and some nice workouts!

It was a great time, where I loved every second. Hereafter I am posting some videos and pics narrating those different days...

First day, still recovering from the race, so we did an easy tour around the central area, where Alexandre lives...
 Mahatma Gandhi Park

The owner of the Park... lol

Municipal Theather

Second day we went to the Sugar Loaf (wrong day!)... lol
It was the hottest day in the year so far, 41°C (105°F)!! When the cable-car doors closed it was like a little oven, and we fried until we get to the next station!! It was said on the news, that the thermal sensation was like 50°C (122°F), but I believed that we experienced a lot more on those trolleys! lol
"Bondinho" The older version in yellow seems cooler! :)

The view to Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon...

The view to Flamento, Botafogo, Laranjeiras and the Corcovado!

Third day, we started hard, waking up at 5am for a running session with the fun crew of team Start, at Barra da Tijuca. To complete the day a great Samba session with San Clemente, they were already training for the Carnaval of 2014.
While I was running, Flor got some cool shoots of the sun rise!!

On the way back, while Moura was driving in the traffic jam, we got some pics of the San Conrrado beach!!

Samba!!
My camera went off, so I could only register something with my phone...
Below a video to feel this very Brazilian rhythm!

Fourth day was the compensation day... :) Coaches use this term for those recovery days where the body needs to assimilate all the hard work! We only went for an easy swim at a Navy Academy...
Navy Academy, Villegagnon Island.

No way I could make her swim!!! haha

Fifth day, finally with some vacation touch, I slept until midday!! Then we ran all the way to Ipanema Beach...
She with the bike

We with the sneakers!

Sixth day was bolded by a great bike ride with some bad boys!! They call themselves the psychopaths and they are brutal while riding!! haha I survived... It was 100km at a 44kph pace, in the route of Rio-Terezopolis! Followed by an easy swim at the Flamengo beach with an old and psychopath friend, Gerardo!!
The Psychopaths!

Flamengo Beach: dark water, but by one side you see the Sugar Loaf, to the other there is the huge Christ statue, and over you there are some airplanes taking off from Santos Dummont Airport!

Seventh day and the most intense one deserves an individual post. Its already under construction and will be soon posted.

Até mais!!

Working out in Boulder!

Two weeks of acclimating and the workouts are almost like in the NTP pattern!!
Actually we are suppose to crave for Oxygen while doing any workout, the difference here is that the breathless sensation starts way before any sign of muscle fatigue, what it makes it kinda funny!
(Ward, CO - @ 9.440ft, pic: coach Siri)

The good news is that I'm already running 50k's per week, and adios to that hip injury! So the expectations are getting bigger (not much tho!) for Boulder Peak Triathlon in a few days.

(Heading to wkout at 5:15am)

Well deserved day-off yesterday, for the reason of two days ago... It was tense:
From bed to swimming pool, starting at 5:30;
Swim done, ate and took a nap;
Woke up, ate and went for a bike ride;
120km's later I was like trash!
The plan became short and clear: food and sleep. I didn't even have time to shower, and so, to keep the sheets clean I slept on the floor!
I blacked out, drooled, dreamed, and woke up thinking that someone was calling my name! Lol. It was already 5pm and I made a huge effort to wake up, as I had made plans with some friends, to explore a bit of Boulder that night.
(At Downtown with Gui, Pati and Alexandre!)

Today I am feeling way better! Just smashed another 5k swim at 5:30am again! And later Im going to do a run at the Reservoir, where the race is going to be held at July 14th!!
Can't wait!!

PS: Thanks Valerie for reviewing my grammar!!

Training in L.A.

Hello Folks!! I know the blog has not been updated in a while, but at least I have a good excuse for that!! I have been training sooooo much here in Los Angeles!!

I would like to upload more pictures, but the camera cable is in Borrego Springs...

I will find a way to get it, but meanwhile I can utilize my friends pics from their i-phones!!!
This is the view of Santa Mônica beach, where we ran some hard miles today!!!

Siri was cheering all the way from her bike, she always keeps us going and super motivaed!! On the last few miles I made sure she was sweating trying to keep up with us!! 5'15" for the last mile, I not quite used to miles yet, but I know I was running hard!! hehehe
Swimming work-out in Culver City, on the last days also to ride my bike my arms are tight!! kkkk
Takka was nº1 at the coffe shop!!!

After hard work-outs it is good to have a breakfast of blueberry pancakes or muffins with a "café latte"!!!
 Training TRX with Nikki!!
I don't no how I could smile after running so hard on the treadmill.

I like to say that the trains here are hardly fun!!!

Thanks Crista for review my blog, and so many special things that you and Mark are doing for me!!
So glad to have friends like you!!

Trainning in the Desert!

Almost three weeks training in the USA, today its time to show some pics ot this new experience!
 Desert...
 Riding in the desert!
Another view of the desert!!
It is... as you can see, these have been my super different training places! Sand, sand, cactus, road and more sand! Occasionally I can see a car, a lizard or a hare, to remind me that I'm not on a Martian expedition!
State of California, more precisely Borrego Springs!
I am starting a new season of training, spending a month in BorregoSprings!
Hot Days and Cold Nights!!
It is a super small town, the center is a block where there is a police station, a grocery store, a hotel, about four stores, a petrol station, two coffee shops and a gym, where I live!
This is my coach, Siri Lindley in 2001, winning the world champion tittle! Every day I wake up in the gyms room looking at this poster, plastered on the wall! Not bad, to motivate beautiful day of hard workouts!
In hot and dry days, the workouts are hard. The advantage is that every drop of sweat makes your own job, cause it dries almost instantly, cooling the body!
This is our pool, also known as fish bowl! It is on the backyard of Siris home, very different from any pool, it simulates the choppy water from open water races!
Clouds are rare! But when they come form beautiful landscapes!
Borrego Springs is surrounded by mountains! Some workouts are challenging!
Going Up!!
The climate is so dry that out of the water, we get dry in just 3 minutes! Three chilly, breezy minutes! Once, I forgot a wet towel inside my bag, was already prepared for a bad smell of mold! But when I saw it was perfectly dry... I was suprised!
Me, Siri, Takka & Donna!!
"V" of Vãnha, Victory!!
This is Borrego Springs! Smaller is the town, the better is to focus on training, all we need is a fish bowl, and loooots of asphalt!
